James "Jim" Eng Sr. Obituary

James Alan Eng, Sr, age 80, of Freedom passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

James “Jim” was born on April 6, 1944 in Shawano, Wisconsin and was the son of the late Carl A & Ruth H (Kruse) Eng.  He attended school in Clintonville and graduated high school with the class of 1962.  After graduation, Jim joined the U.S. Air Force to serve his country.  Before he left, he proposed to his wife of 60 years, Patricia “Pat” K Schultz. Jim & Pat were married on August 24, 1963 and had two sons, James Alan Eng, Jr. and John Matthew Eng.

Jim completed two tours of duty in the Air Force, sending him overseas to Thailand during the Vietnam War.  After his honorable discharge in 1970, he worked at the Four-Wheel Drive Corporation in Clintonville as a Machinist.  He later worked as a Millwright at Kim-Tech, a Draftsman at Kimberly Clark Co, and as an Engineer at Voith.  He retired as the Manager of the Service Department at Voith in 2002.  After his retirement, Jim owned and operated a motorcycle shop in De Pere named after his late grandson, Nick, called Nick’s BMW Motorcycles.  He built that business from the ground up and ran it from 2003 – 2013.  Throughout his career, he was known for mentoring many people and sharing his knowledge of everything mechanical.  Jim could fix anything and had “The Knack”.

Jim had a life-long passion for steam locomotives.  He was involved in the restoration of numerous locomotives across the country.  He shared this passion with his children and grandchildren who would join him traveling to see various railroads.  His favorite traveling companion and grandson, Jack, did six motorcycle sidecar trips all around the Western states from railroad to railroad.  Their favorite railroad was the Durango & Silverton in Colorado.

Jim had a lot of special pets throughout the years.  His most recent being Lucky, who had a special place in his heart.  Most importantly, Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Patricia Eng and his sons James Alan Eng, Jr and John Matthew (Jennifer) Eng, his grandchildren Chantel (Dominick) Tolliver-Grays, Noah Eng, Skylar Boerger-Eng, and Jack Eng, his great-grandchildren, Elvira, Alexis & Octavia, his sister-in-law Rebecca Schultz, and his brother-in-laws Walter “John” Schultz, Jr., Tim Schultz, and David (Terri) Schultz.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Ruth Eng, a grandson, Nicholas Eng, and a sister, Joan (William) Reinke.
